MT.SAC - San Gabriel Valley SBDC consultants have expertise in business planning, accessing capital, financial projections, marketing, technology management, contracting, and business strategy.
We do not charge a fee for consulting. Clients may be asked to take some of our trainings and courses, offered at no charge or at a very reasonable cost, before they receive consulting services so that they can make better use of the consulting input.

Starting and managing a business takes motivation, desire and talent. It also takes research and planning. Like a chess game, success in small business starts with decisive and correct opening moves. And, although initial mistakes are not fatal, it takes skill, discipline and hard work to move forward.

SGV SBDC Client wins Small Business Person of the Year

LOS ANGELES –The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced the Los Angeles District Office winners of their annual Small Business Week Awards competition for 2008 co-sponsored by the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce in the L.A. region. The Los Angeles SBA Office covers Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.
The Awards were presented at the SBA’s 27th Annual Small Business Week Awards Ceremony Wednesday, June 4th at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
The SBA Small Business Person of the Year, is Dantee Cardenas, of E.D. Produce Inc. which was incorporated in 2003 as a wholesaler/distributor of seasonal fresh produce, which with Persian cucumbers the principal product. The business imports its fresh, seasonal produce from Dantee Cardenas’ family-owned farms in Mexico by way of family-owned trucks on a daily basis to the company’s warehouse in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles’ produce district. To increase its margins, Cardenas began selling directly to end buyers rather than going through brokers. The strategy has proven successful as the business reaped the benefits of greater net profitability. Today, 85 percent of E.D.Produce products are Persian cucumbers. The business is known as the “King of Persian Cucumbers” and captures approximately 75 percent of the market share in Los Angeles and surrounding areas. Cardenas obtained a U.S. Small Business Administration loan in July 2007 for the purchase of the warehouse E.D. Produce currently occupies.

Computer Security Counseling for Small Businesses
The San Gabriel Valley SBDC now provides training and counseling of what the small business owner should know and do about computer security, computer networks and information assurance. Most small business owners can't afford to hire an Information Technology employee to explain the security and computer technology issues that are important to your small business and organization.

SGV SBDC Celebrates Grand Opening of New Offices
On November 29, 2007, the San Gabriel Valley Small Business Development Center celebrated the opening of their new offices with a highly successful Open House and Ribbon Cutting event with over 100 people in attendance.
There were a number of dignitaries at the event, including keynote speakers, Alberto Alvarado, Los Angeles District Director of the U. S. Small Business Administration, Dr. John S. Nixon, Interim President of Mt. San Antonio College, who hosts the SGV SBDC, and Sheneui Sloan, Los Angeles SBDC Lead Center Director. Daniel Morales, Director for the SGV SBDC introduced the speakers to the audience.

City of Santa Fe Spring supports SBDC with $10,000
The City of Santa Fe Springs approved on November 20th, 2007 a contribution of $10,000 to support the San Gabriel Valley SBDC services in that city. These funds will allow the SGV SBDC to open a satellite office at the Santa Fe Springs Chamber of Commerce to help entrepreneurs and small business owners located in the city. We were able to obtain these funds through the generous support of the City of Santa Fe Springs Redevelopment Department.

City of Irwindale supports SGV SBDC with $5,000
The Irwindale City Council voted on October 10th a resolution to support the San Gabriel Valley SBDC with a $5,000 donation to assist the residents and small business located in Irwindale.
We were able to obtain these funds through the generous support of the City of Irwindale Economic Development Department.

San Gabriel Valley SBDC Helps Specialty Produce Company Secure $1.75-million Loan for Building & Expansion
Expansion opportunity for E.D. Produce originally appeared in the form of a setback when the landlord for the Los Angeles-based produce firm informed the small company that the building in which they operated would be sold.
But with help from the San Gabriel Valley Small Business Development Center and Pacific Mercantile Bank, owner Dante Cardenas secured a $1.75-million loan. The money enabled the company to buy its own building and one next door, hire five new employees and begin focusing on marketing expansion.

Welcome to Los Angeles - San Gabriel Valley Small Business Development Center hosted by Mt. San Antonio College. (also known as Mt.SAC SBDC)
The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. It lies to the east of the city of Los Angeles, to the north of the Puente Hills, to the south of the San Gabriel Mountains, and to the west of the Inland Empire. It derives its name from the San Gabriel River that flows southward through the center of the valley. At one time predominantly agricultural, the San Gabriel Valley is today almost entirely developed (largely in suburban form, but with certain areas beginning to urbanize) and is an integral part of the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.
The mission of the San Gabriel Valley SBDC is to enhance economic growth by helping start and grow businesses.
The San Gabriel Valley SBDC hosted by Mt. San Antonio College has been serving small business owners in Los Angeles County since the early 1990's, and works closely with many local business organizations.
California's Small Business Development Center program began operating in 1989 and has grown to 45 centers. The State of California is organized into 6 regions, corresponding with the SBA district offices. For the Greater Los Angeles area, The Long Beach Community College is the Lead Center, providing leadership to 8 SBDCs in the Greater Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.
The Mt. San Antonio College Small Business Development Center (Mt. SAC SBDC) provides a variety of services to businesses and entrepreneurs to help their businesses grow and succeed. We have a team of counselors that provide advice on a one to one basis at little or no cost. Generally this is done at one of our offices, and we can also go onsite to local businesses on a selective basis. We also provide low cost workshops on various topics relevant to business owners and we offer assistance to individuals in applying for loans or seeking access to capital sources.
The Small Business Development Center program is currently the largest management and technical assistance program in the United States, serving the small business sector. The program has more than 1000 SBDCs located in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) administers the overall program while implementation of the program rests with each SBDC Lead Center and the participating organizations within the state.
We are hosted by Mt. San Antonio College and funded in part by a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Funding is also provided through the California Community Colleges and through local Cities, Chambers of Commerce, Banks and Community Organizations.
